MARRIAGE LICENSES
Marriage License Applications will be processed by the Court “by appointment only.”
APPLYING FOR A MARRIAGE LICENSE IS A TWO (2) STEP PROCESS
You MUST complete both Steps of the Process.
STEP ONE (1):
You must complete the Marriage License Application online here.
After you submit your online application, you will be directed to your “Receipt Confirmation.” After you receive your “Receipt Confirmation,” you MUST return to this Page to schedule your appointment to process your application at the DeKalb County Probate Court.
***You will need to enter the “Order #” from your “Receipt Confirmation,” when scheduling the appointment, so write it down or print out your “Receipt Confirmation” page.***
STEP TWO (2):
Return to this Page and go to the self-scheduling calendar. There are different schedules available for two (2) different windows, please check availability at each window using the drop-down boxes. Once you select the date and time for your appointment and provide all the requested information, you will receive an E-mail Confirmation of your appointment date and time.
Please be aware that the E-mail Confirmation may go to your SPAM or JUNK folders.
You MUST print the E-mail Confirmation and bring a copy with you to your appointment or have it visible on a hand-held device.
NOTE: You will not be allowed to enter the building for a marriage license if you do not have proof of an appointment.
NOTE: You must wear a mask when you the building. If you miss your scheduled appointment, you will have to contact the Court for further instructions, and you may have to re-submit your application.

Monday – Friday: 8:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
(We are closed daily from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. for Cleaning and Sanitizing).
General Information
- Georgia residents may apply for a marriage license in any county in Georgia.
- If neither applicant is a resident of Georgia, the marriage license must be obtained in the county where the ceremony is going to be performed.
- The marriage license is valid only for ceremonies performed in Georgia.
- Premarital blood tests are no longer required in Georgia.
Requirements for Marriage License
- Both applicants must be present in order to obtain a marriage license.
- You must provide proof of age. Documents that are accepted include, but are not limited to, a valid driver’s license, original or certified copy of birth certificate, valid passport, or valid armed forces identification card. See O.C.G.A. § 19-3-36 for more information.
- If either applicant has been divorced, you must present a final, stamped, sealed certified divorce decree(s).
- If either applicant was previously married and the spouse died, you must present proof of death such as a death certificate or an obituary.
- If either applicant presents a legal document in a language other than English, the applicant must attach a translation of the document by a certified translator.
Fees for Marriage License
Without Certificate of Premarital Education
The fee is $66.00 (includes one certified copy of marriage certificate) plus $2.00 for shipping and handling.
With Certificate of Premarital Education
- The fee is $26.00 (includes one certified copy of marriage certificate) plus $2.00 for shipping and handling.
- A signed and dated certificate of completion from a qualifying premarital education program with at least six hours of instruction must be provided.

Forms of Payment
- Money orders, Visa, MasterCard, or Discover accepted.
- Money orders should be made payable to DeKalb County Probate Court.
- The court does not accept personal checks.
- All fees are nonrefundable.
- A service fee of 2.75% will be added to all credit, debit, and ACH transactions. The minimum service fee is $2.00, and the service fee will be billed by CORE and will appear on your statement as CORE*SERVICE FEE.
Certified Copies
- The fee for a certified copy of a marriage certificate is $10.00.
- The fee for a certified copy of a marriage license is $10.00
- The fee for a certified copy of a marriage license application is $10.00
- For requests submitted online, a $2.00 shipping and handling fee will be added and payment by Visa, MasterCard, or Discover is required.

Other Information
The marriage license does not have an expiration date.
